Good magazines are addictive — but unlike many addictions, magazines are good for you. We'd like to share some of the ones we've come across in our travels.

Walkley Magazine ...
Dedicated to discussion about and analysis of the journalism and the media, the Walkley Magazine features articles by some of Australia's best journalists and photojournalists. Published six times a year by the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (aka the AJA). There's always something interesting to read and the cartoons are a treat. Issue 11 is out now. You can get a glimpse of back issues on their website but you really have to flick through the magazine itself to appreciate it. Kate Bezar's little mook keeps expanding. It now has a community site (the nest) as well as the mag!
You can purchase a subscription for the digital edition ($30) or printed ($49) or buy each quarterly issue from the newsagent (though you might have to search for it). There's a subscription link on the Dumbo feather site.

VOICEWORKS ...
Published by Express Media, a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting young people in the arts and media. The current issue is a collection of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and images that reflect the theme: BUDGET. Includes columns on books, music, film, comics, zines, and sex, plus a good section on publishers, competitions and funding bodies. Costs $7.00 per issue, slightly less if you subscribe. Kateigaho International ...
The Spring 2005 issue was of special interest to those who take delight in paper, prints and books. It features articles on chirimenbon (crepe paper books) and katagami (paper stencil patterns). This Japanese arts and cultural magazine, published quarterly in English since October 2003, always offers a peek at the less familiar aspects of Japan and the Japanese. Approx $20.00 per issue from Ariel in Paddington and Japanese bookshops in Sydney and Melbourne. Subscriptions available on the website.
